SIMPLE PAST

(Pretérito Perfeito)

a film by Gustavo Pizzi

Brazil / 2006 / Documentary / Colored / 75 min

Casa Rosa (Pink House) was the most famous brothel in Rio de Janeiro in the 20th century. In 1991, it ended its activities and, four years later, reopened as a cultural space, where parties, events and musical shows are held. Hundreds of young people came to the place every weekend. In 2004, filmmaker Gustavo Pizzi, a frequent visitor to the parties, invited some people who knew the house as a brothel to revisit the place. Former clients, employees and Ivanilda, a 65-year-old prostitute, who worked at the house when she was 17 and has never returned there since. A story about memory, morals and negotiation.
